About Hardware Test

Browser-based testing for the hardware sitting on your desk

What is Hardware Test?

Hardware Test is a free, browser-based platform for testing the input and media hardware on your desk: game controllers (PS4 DualShock 4, PS5 DualSense, Xbox), keyboards, mice, webcams, microphones, and headphones. Every test runs entirely inside the browser tab using standard web APIs — the Web Gamepad API, KeyboardEvent / MouseEvent / WheelEvent, MediaDevices.getUserMedia, and the Web Audio API.

Whether you're diagnosing controller stick drift, measuring keyboard rollover, spotting double-click failure on a worn mouse switch, verifying a webcam before a video call, or checking that both headphone channels are routed correctly, the right tool is one tab away — no installs, no accounts, no uploads.

Who Builds Hardware Test?

A solo engineering project, maintained in the open

Hardware Test is built and maintained by Hassan Ahmed, a software engineer based in Australia. The project started as a personal itch — a DualShock 4 developed stick drift and no existing online tool was precise enough to quantify how bad it was before sending the controller in for warranty. The first version shipped in 2024 with a single PS4 tester; PS5, Xbox, and keyboard support were added over the following months based on feedback from users who found the site via Reddit and r/playstation threads about stick drift.

The site has no funding, no ads, and no analytics on individual inputs. The commitment is simple: every test runs entirely in your browser, the code stays lean, and the tools stay free. Source-level issues, feature requests, and bug reports are welcome via GitHub: github.com/hassan-qureshi2. Connect on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/hassan-ahmed2.

Other projects by Hassan: Discount Engine — a Shopify app that powers tier, bundle, split-bundle, and trade discounts on checkout and POS via Shopify Discount Functions, helping merchants migrate off the retiring Shopify Script Editor.
